The CETT-UB Chair of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy

CETT and the University of Barcelona, together with the Barcelona City Council and the Fundación Gaspar Espuña – CETT have created the Chair of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy, the first university chair in tourism in the city of Barcelona. Its aim is to lead and drive research and the transfer of knowledge in the chair's field: tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

This initiative is not only a pioneer due to its field, but also because of its structure, where the local government and private sector are collaborating with the University. The Chair's purpose is to connect the talent, knowledge and resources related to tourism, hospitality and gastronomy from its three sponsoring agents in order to improve competitiveness and tourism sustainability, performing R&D projects, educational activities and actions to disseminate and transfer knowledge. All this with the hope of making the chair an international model of university/government + business collaboration working towards constant improvement and evolution in the fields of tourism, hospitality and gastronomy.

With this purpose in mind, four main areas of work have been defined for the Chair of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy:

  • Knowledge, Research and Education

This area will promote the generation and dissemination of knowledge in the chair's field, as well as the exchange of this knowledge among the various agents in the tourism sector.

  • University - Business Connections

Cooperation between the university community and businesses in the tourism sector will be promoted with the aim of creating an innovative tourism business environment and facilitating students' employability.

  • Social dialogue

The Chair aims to become a space for exchange and collaboration between the city, the University and the tourism sector with the triple goal of guaranteeing the well-being of citizens, the competitiveness of the tourism sector and the conditions that would make economically, socially and environmentally sustainable tourism possible.

  • International Cooperation

Barcelona will be promoted as the "Capital of the Mediterranean" to lead the creation of a sustainable Mediterranean tourism area and to attract international talent to the city.

The projects that will be carried out in the short term within the framework of the Chair will be the 1st Smart Tourism Congress Barcelona in 2016 and the creation of the Observatory for Sustainable Tourism in Urban Destinations.
