The Food Campus of Torribera is one of the six campuses of the UB. Located in the area of Torribera (Diputació de Barcelona), with 34 hectares and which borders the Natural Park of the Sierra de Marina, in the city of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, it is a university environment of 12,000 m2 dedicated to teaching the sciences related to Food, with studies of degrees and master's degrees, the research dimension coordinated by the Nutrition Research Institute and Food Security (INSA) of the UB, and with transfer and dissemination activities to the productive sector and society. The degrees taught in the Food Campus are attached to the Faculty of Pharmacy, through the secretariat located in the Teaching Building and Student Services (Verdaguer).
The Campus has a building of 3.600 m2 dedicated entirely to modern teaching laboratories and high technological level for teaching related to Food and Nutrition (health sector), food technology (sector of the food industry) and culinary and gastronomic sciences (catering sector).
The Food Campus of Torribera has all the university services to accompany the academic activity of the students: a specialized library in food (CRAI) with self-learning spaces, three computer rooms, the auditorium Les Voltes for 200 people, restaurant, shop, sports services (summer pool, tennis courts, indoor football, basketball, paddle tennis), twelve classrooms and seminars, fifteen specialized laboratories (cooking, food chemistry, food analysis, instrumentation physicochemistry, microbiology and parasitology, food technology, sensory analysis, biology, nutrition and dietetics, computer lab, culinary studies), and 1,500 m2 of greenhouses and practice gardens. This Campus is one of the eight available to the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and which host its 28 schools and faculties. Located in Castelldefels and integrated into the so-called Mediterranean Technology Park, the Campus of Baix Llobregat is actively committed to innovation and excellence in teaching , research and technology transfer, in the fields of Agri-Food Engineering, Biotechnology, Telecommunications and Aeronautics.
The Higher School of Agriculture of Barcelona (ESAB) has been located there since 2005 and has ** state-of-the-art facilities and technologies** for the study and research of the field of Engineering of Biosystems. With the aim of improving the teaching offer of the new degree, it puts at student disposal its teaching and scientific infrastructures, which include sixteen classrooms, three computer rooms and thirty specialized laboratories (biotechnology, microbiology, biology, physics, production animal, plant production, chemistry and pedology, food technology, pilot plant, food processing plant, and tasting room). The ESAB also has greenhouses and an orchard space available to students. A short distance away, in Viladecans, the ESAB has the Agropolis facilities, the research unit in Biological Systems Engineering, which includes 10 hectares of surface, with glass and greenhouses plastic equipped with the most advanced controls, as well as a service building with a multi-purpose room.
The students also have the support services and support located in the Campus building, which include computer rooms, the specialized library, spaces for individual and group work, the newspaper library, the language laboratory and the laboratory of teaching resources (the Factory), in addition to the restaurant and spaces for free use for students. The entire campus is equipped with free Wi-Fi network for students.
The fact that the ESAB is located on a campus like the Baix Llobregat, next to the natural spaces of delta del Llobregat and the beach, places the school in a privileged environment with a growing and progressive dynamism of university life. The Fundación Alícia is located in the Món Sant Benet complex, in Sant Fruitós de Bages (Barcelona), a cultural, tourist and leisure complex of great singularity located in an incomparable natural environment.
Alícia is a research center applied to gastronomy that is structured in three functional areas: research and technological innovation in cooking (study and development of products and processes) ); health and eating habits (promotion of good habits, development of culinary responses for specific problems, improvement of collective feeding), and food patrimony and sustainability (management and study of the gardens of Sant Benet, valuation of products and territory, historical heritage, proximity, sustainability and prevention of food shortage), with the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team made up of the best experts and companies and entities in the sector .
The main building of the Foundation, of 2,000 m2, houses a central kitchen, the ** scientific workspace** with the best special cooking appliances and measurements, refrigeration chambers, freezing and deep freezing , the controlled temperature and humidity room, the demonstration kitchen-auditorium, the practical kitchen-workshop for groups, the theoretical space, the practical library ... In addition, it has the Sant Benet gardens, of recovery and evaluation of traditional horticultural varieties for its culinary experimentation: the gastronomic garden (the plot, of more than 8,200 m2, is divided into two terraces, intended for fruit trees and vegetables ), the didactic garden (of more than 3,800 m2) and the Pomarium (a plot of more than 5,600 m2, destined in large part to the plantation of apple and pear trees).
The Alícia Foundation is, therefore, a space to create social awareness about the importance of gastronomy and food as a cultural fact and as an educational factor; a place where ideas about food and cooking are generated, and a sensory and stimulating experience that combines tradition and innovation.
In the new degree of Culinary and Gastronomic Sciences, it brings an experience of ten years in concepts of culinary innovation, of sectoral knowledge transfer and ** collaboration** between the public and private sectors, and between the catering sector and the food and gastronomy industry.
