Project Development

During the academic year, specific sessions on the development of the MCP will be held. 

In order to complete the MCP, the student must submit:

  • The project's full report 
  • The dissemination or scientific paper 
  • Presentation for the defense of the project 

Structure of the MCP


The structure of the project dependes on the orientation- either research of application - of the project

A.    Structure of the MCP research-oriented
  • Cover: title, author's details, academic advisor's details. The CETT-UB logo must be included as well as the name of the studies.
  • Abstract/ Resumen300 words maximum
  • Keywords/ Palabras clave: 5 máximum 
  • Table of contents: contents, tables and figures 

  1. Introduction: context of the study, justification of the topic, address the topic of the study, objectives, author's contribution, project's structure.
  2. Objectives and hypothesis: definició de les metes a assolir en el projecte (generals i especifiques) i formulació de la/les hipotesi/s quan sigui procedent.
  3. Literature review: theories on the topic, concepts and theoretic development 
  4. State of the art: current situation of the object of study. 
  5. Methodology: type of research (descriptive, comparative, analytic...), type of methodology (quantitative, qualitative o mixed), technique and tool for gathering information (survey, interview, observation, collection of information...).
  6. Results and discussion: introduction of the results, core of the work done by the students, comparison with previous works, etc.; interpretation and evaluation.
  7. Conclusions: main conclusions of the research, hypothesis verification and answer to the objectives outlined and limitations and recommendations for further research.  
  • Reference: reference list of sources and authors cited within the text of the SCP. It must follow the APA rules collected in the Style Manual and Citation Guide in alphabetical order. Plagiarism is completely forbidden. Students must write the project using their own words. They must be aware of the language they use which must be clear and relevant. 
  • Website bibliography: list of websites, blogs... used for the development of the SCP. It must follow the APA system.

B.    Professionally oriented MCP Structure

  4. Analysis of the Current Situation: current situation of the object of study within context (Spain, Catalonia...), market (Tourism Sector, Hospitality, Gastronomy,...) or company/ institution/ organization. 
  5. Action plan: description of the development stages of the development of the project.
  6. Results: introduction of the results, core of the work done by the students, comparison with previous works, etc.; interpretation and evaluation.
  7. Conclusions: main conclusions of the research, hypothesis verification and answer to the objectives outlined and limitations and recommendations for further research.

Structure of the Article (paper)


Research-oriented projects will be summarized in a scientific article, an academic essay fairly short aimed for publication in scientific or specialized journals. 

Regarding the professionally oriented projects, the article is also a summary of the project but its addressed for the business sector, private companies and public institutions. 

The structure of the article may vary depending on the type of project. It should never exceed the 10 pages.  

a.    Structure of a Scientific Article 
The main structure of the article should be:

  • Title: 20 words maximum. It should be short and clear. It should be possible to encode in order to register it in different international indexes. 
  • Abstract (Resumen): short overview of the objectives, principal results and conclusions. It should be longer than 200 words. 
  • Keywords (Palabras clave): in English and in Spanish or Catalan, this section consists of a maximum of 6 words that describe de topic of study. They should appear in alphabetical order. The student must take into account that the selection of the right keywords will favor the inclusion of the article in international indexes as well as making it easy to locate. 
  1. Introduction: the introduction displays in a concise way the aim of the research and the current situation of the object of study. It should be kept in mind that the description of the current situation implies Literature Review. This section should include:
    • The intention of the student and the hypothesis of the project 
    • The approach to the problem 
    • background 
  2. Objectives: general and specific objectives and hypothesis. 
  3. Methodology: includes the description about the design of the research and explains the methodology, procedures and tools that have been used. 
  4. Results and discussionssummary of the data and resultas as well as the proposed solutions. 
  5. Conclusions: research-oriented projects don't necessarily finish with the conclusions. The conclusions give answers to the following questions: strengths and weaknesses of the research (self-assessment), highlight the academic contributions and suggestions, open questions and further research lines, assessment and implications of the obtained results as well as possible solutions for unresolved topics. 
Reference: list of references of the sources and authors cited within the txt of the article.  It must follow the APA rules collected in the Style Manual and Citation Guide and be presented in alphabetical order.  
b.    Structure of a dissemination article

The main structure of the article should be:

Other requirements and additional information

  • Length: 15 p DIN A-4 maximum (including all sections) 
  • Word format (.doc) / p
  • Times New Roman 12, Spacing: 1,5
  • Hierarchy in 3 levels: chapters, synopsis and sections.
  • Clear and impersonal writing, avoid ambiguity, abstractions and generalizations. The information should be presented objectively. 
  • Tables, graphics and figures (maps, images, etc) should be marked with a number and an specific title. The sorce should always be specified. They should be cited within the text "See table 1", "See graphic 3", etc. 
  • A reference list should appear at the end of the text following the APA system. Only the references cited within the text should be included. 
  • Footnotes should be numbered and appear at the end of the text, before the reference list. 


Common Mistakes 


Some mistakes happen quite often in this type of project and should be avoided: 


  • Plagiarizing other authors.
  • Using limited vocabulary or repeating a word or phrase continuously. 
  • Lack of punctuation. 
  • Long and 
  • Lack of coherence and balance between the sections of the MCP. Not following a clear structure.
  • Not fulfilling the objectives or not answering the hypothesis. 
  • Conclusions that are not based on an argument or do not derive from the research.
