Katarzyna Byrka

Katarzyna Byrka

Head of the Center for Research on Social Behavior at SWPS University

As the Head of the Center for Research on Social Behavior she leads interdisciplinary projects addressing both theoretical and applied questions in social psychology.  

She focuses on the mechanisms underlying human motivation, with a particular emphasis on social and environmental psychology. Her work investigates the complex relationship between attitudes and behaviors, seeking to understand why individuals often fail to act in accordance with their declared beliefs and declarations. A central strand of her research explores the pursuit of identity goals—such as being an eco-friendly person—through symbolic actions. She also examines the effectiveness of various behavior change techniques, for example, the conditions under which individuals are more likely to choose environmentally friendly product alternatives. 

Her research has been widely recognized and published in leading international journals, including Personality and Social Psychology Review, Motivation Science, Journal of Environmental Psychology, Environment & Behavior, Appetite, and the British Journal of Social Psychology

Marc Castellnou

Marc Castellnou

Head of the Forestry Action Group Area of the Firefighters of the Generalitat

Marc Castellnou is a Forestry Engineer from the University of Lleida (1997) and a Senior Expert at the European Forest Institute (2014). Since 1999, he has worked for the Fire Department of the Generalitat of Catalonia, where he created and led the GRAF (Forest Fire Response Group), assuming strategic leadership in forest fire analysis and management since 2002.

He is an associate professor in the Master's Program in Forestry at the University of Lleida and has developed tools for forest resilience analysis, simulation, and management in national and international collaborations.

His work has been recognized with the International Wildland Fire Safety Award (IAWF, 2015) and the Montero de Burgos Award (2017) from the Official College of Forestry Engineers. Castellnou combines operational experience with teaching and innovation, contributing to more effective and sustainable forest management.

Mireia Guix

Mireia Guix

Lecturer in Tourism at the UQ Business School, The University of Queensland

Her work focuses on how destinations and tourism organisations address sustainability challenges such as climate change. She has worked on projects funded by the European Union, the United Nations Environment Programme, and the Inter-American Development Bank, leading stakeholder consultations for sustainable tourism policy and assessing industry progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. 

Eugeni Osácar Marzal

Dr. Eugeni Osácar Marzal

Academic Director of the UB Chair of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy CETT

PhD in didactic social sciences and heritage at the University of Barcelona. Professor at CETT-UB. He is the academic  director of the UB Chair of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy CETT , the first chair of tourism in Barcelona, with the support of the Barcelona City Council. Also, he is co-director of the academic journal Tourism & Heritage Journal. 

His research activity is focused on cultural tourism, ceeative industries and tourism and, particularly on tourism and audiovisual. 

Jaume Mata

Jaume Mata

Head of Sutainable Tourism at the Visit Valencia Foundation (DMO)

He has over 25 years of experience in tourism planning, marketing and communication. He has also worked in large-scale event management as Marketing and Communication Director and as Chief of Staff of the public consortium Valencia2007, organiser of the bid to host the 32nd America's Cup.  

As Deputy Director of Visit Valencia (2003-2015) he was part og the team that achieved UNWTO accreditation as "Best DMO" in 2006 and reciveid the Ulysses Award for Innovation in Tourism Governance in 2008.  

He hold a postgraduate degree in Tourism Management from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and an MSc in Tourism Management from the University of Surrey as well as a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Valencia.  

He has been lecturer at the University of Valencia and the Open University of Catalonia. He contribued to the PNU Tourism Handbook: Introduction to Tourism (1998) and authored the chapter Intelligence and Innovation for the City Tourism Sustainability in The Future of Tourism (Springer, 2019). 

Dr. Ioannis Pappas

Mechanical Engineer with a PhD in Applied Mechanics and over 34 years of experience in engineering, advancing sustainability and climate change solutions. As GSTC Regional Director for Europe, he is a prominent advocate for sustainable tourism, guiding destinations, hotels, and tour operators in adopting global sustainability standards and practices. He is focusing on Sustainability and Climate Change related Services in Tourism, Energy, Advising in standardization of companies and technological implementation of climate adaptation and mitigation methodologies. Since 2025, he is European Climate Pact Ambassador and EUI-IA Expert, working to enhance climate resilience across Europe.  

Josep Rofríguez

Josep Rodríguez

Head of Strategic Projects at the Tourism Services Management of the Barcelona Provincial Council

Enginyer, with a degree in Humanities and a postgraduate degree in Tourism Destination Management, has worked for more than 25 years in the management of European and international projects, focusing on the most recent developments in the tourism sector. He is coordinator of the Sustainable Tourism Community, a project funded by the European Interreg Euro-MED program that brings together various projects related to the sustainability of tourism in the Mediterranean in fields such as innovation and new technologies, the circular economy, climate change and the protection of biodiversity and natural resources. 

Romunaldo Romero

Romualdo Romero

1.356 / 5.000 Professor of Atmospheric Physics at the University of the Balearic Islands

After completing his PhD in Physics in 1998, he specialized in meteorology and Mediterranean climate. He conducted postdoctoral research at NOAA/NSSL (USA) and undertook shorter research stays at MIT, the University of Wales, and the Polytechnic University of Milan, before continuing his career at the UIB, where he became a full professor at the age of 41.

His teaching spans undergraduate and graduate levels, covering topics such as geophysical fluid dynamics, numerical simulation, and climate change. He has supervised several doctoral theses and has been invited to lecture at universities and scientific conferences worldwide.

His research focuses on Mediterranean meteorology, severe weather phenomena, climate change, and numerical modeling. He has led more than 20 national and European projects, published extensively in leading international journals, and contributed to major international networks such as MEDEX and HYMEX.

His contributions have earned him numerous national research distinctions and international awards, including the prestigious Plinius Medal from the European Geosciences Union. He is also a founding member of the spin-off company MeteoClim Services.

Anna Torres

Anna Torres

Associate professor at the Department of Geography at the University of Barcelona

Specializing in tourism and sustainability, her research focuses on the development and application of indicators for the sustainable planning and management of tourist destinations. She has been a Marie Skłodowska-Curie researcher at the University of Surrey (United Kingdom) and has collaborated with various institutions and public administrations on projects on tourism governance and sustainability. She is a member of the ANTERRIT Research Group (UB) and secretary of the Permanent Commission of the Tourism Geography Group of the Spanish Geographical Association.
