What is the Senior Capstone Project?

What is the Final Degree Project?

In order to complete the Bachelor's Degree in Culinary and Gastronomic Sciences, students must do and present a Senior Capstone Project (SCP) as reflected by the syllabus.

This project is a culmination of what students have learned throughout the entire degree. It works as a link between academic and working life. The main objective of the SCP is to allow students to contribute expert knowledge to the sector for the first time, depending on the interests and professional motivations of the student.

This guide is intended as a support tool for students and the professor-tutor. It offers an explanation for generic aspects common to all projects and the basic criteria established by the EUHT CETT - UB. However, every type of project asks for a specific approach based on the topic and objectives. Students should always follow the tutor's criteria.

The presentation of the SCP must fulfill a series of requirements, which are stated in the following paragraphs. The students must accept that the SCP is a 12 ECTS credits subject and usually implies fieldwork that may take a considerable amount of time to carry out. Students should draw a realistic and coherent plan of action, taking into account his/her availability.

The SCP supposes the culmination of the degree's learning, where the acquired competences and their application are reflected. In fact, the SCP is considered a valuable and real learning tool that reflects the knowledge acquired by the students and their creativity and decision-making skills (from choosing the topic to establishing future strategies). It will also allow students to delve into research and contribute expert knowledge to unexplored culinary and gastronomic areas.

The SCP can be done through research, professional or entrepreneurship orientation, depending on the students' interests to go in-depth in some aspects related to their specialization. For this reason, it is mandatory to develop a SCP linked to the specialization of the student. Furthermore, the SCP can be done individually, in pairs or in groups.
