Who we are?

Who we are

We promote training, research and sustainable tourism

Welcome to CETT Fundació, a private non-profit entity inherent to CETT-UB, Barcelona School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy, a reference center in tourism, hospitality and gastronomy. Founded in 2000 by Gaspar Espuña, we work to promote training, research and knowledge transfer in these key sectors.

Our mission is to ensure the continuity of CETT's values and principles: corporate social responsibility, sustainable tourism development, innovation and entrepreneurship. We contribute to forge a promising future for our country and bring value to society and the sector in general.

In order to promote these ideals, the CETT Fundació is guided by six fundamental principles

Complement CETT training with initiatives that promote tourism knowledge.

Promote research to advance the science of tourism and hospitality.

Promote sustainable growth in these vital areas.

Maintain a close relationship with the sector to keep abreast of its needs.

To support students in expanding their knowledge.

Promote social responsibility as an integral part of our actions.

With these principles as a guide, CETT Fundació develops a wide range of activities in six key areas

  • Tourism and hotel training

We promote training in all areas of CETT to offer a complete and quality education.

  • Innovation in tourism management

We promote innovation as a tool to improve efficiency and excellence in tourism management.

  • Research

We support and encourage research for the development of projects and the enrichment of tourism knowledge.

  • Internationalization

We collaborate with international projects to enhance the international projection of CETT.

  • Networking

We establish and consolidate relationships with key players in the tourism sector to foster cooperation and knowledge exchange.

  • Grants and donations

We channel economic resources for training and research through grants and donations.

As advocates of applied research, training and innovative initiatives of a social nature, CETT Fundació provides support to students through scholarships, grants and awards for academic excellence. We also organize the CETT Entrepreneurial Projects Awards to promote innovation and entrepreneurship. In addition, we collaborate as co-organizers in several congresses, conferences and knowledge transfer events.

CETT Fundació has a majority stake in the assets of the CETT Campus, which includes the CETT-UB (School of Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy), the Alimara University Hotel and the Àgora International University Residence (attached to the University of Barcelona). This allows us to be actively involved in university life and offer a comprehensive experience to students.

Every profit generated by the Foundation is reinvested to achieve the objectives and improve the facilities and equipment, thus guaranteeing the economic viability and the fulfillment of the development objectives of the CETT Campus.

Fields of action

CETT Fundació focuses mainly on three areas of action:

  • Education area

    Rigor, innovation and experience

CETT is the educational center of reference in Tourism, Hospitality and Gastronomy. It has a team of specialized professionals that offers students a model of creation and transmission of knowledge based on rigor, innovation and experience.

With a history of 50 years, CETT has become a center that connects people and links the academic environment with the business and institutional fabric. Committed to those who experience learning as growth and an opportunity to achieve vital projects through interaction with the environment and people.

Thanks to its history and its role as an agent of change in the sector, students have the opportunity to live a unique training experience at CETT, in contact with reality and which at the same time enables them to anticipate new challenges and social trends.

With a firm commitment to society and the country, and with a spirit of constant transformation, CETT provides value for the achievement of a more professional and sustainable sector.

  • International area

    Collaborations around the world

CETT Fundació encourages the collaboration and participation of CETT and its students and teachers in international projects.

It also promotes and participates in internationalization actions:

    • Cooperation actions, through agreements signed with foreign institutions and universities to promote cooperation actions in concerted projects for the exchange of knowledge and experience. For example, the inter-university exchange project in Namibia with the Olof Palme Foundation.
    • Participation in international activities and programs of Foundations and other non-profit organizations. For example, the participation, together with the World Wild Fund, in the Across the Waters program on ecotourism and the creation of the ITACA School of Sustainable Tourism (2006).
    • Promotion of exchange activities of CETT students and faculty with several American and Caribbean universities.

CETT Fundació participates with international organizations in think tanks and study groups on the tourism phenomenon and its consequences:

  • Business area

Improving training and service in the industry

At the end of 2007, CETT Foundation, CETT and the University of Barcelona (UB) created the CETT-UB Business Council, a body for improving training and service in the sector.

The main functions of the CETT-UB Business Council are:

    • Create links between CETT-UB and its business environment.
    • Strengthen these relationships with the objective and commitment to improve training and service in the sector.
    • To bring even closer the link between tourism companies and institutions in the daily life of the center.

In addition, since its creation, CETT Fundació has signed significant agreements with several entities or Foundations that corroborate its founding spirit, among which:

    • Department of the Environment of the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia)
    • WWF (World Wild Fund) - Within the Accross the Waters program.
    • Sustainability and Nature Area of the Catalunya-La Pedrera Foundation
    • Foundation for Sustainable Food, Nutrition and Gastronomy

History

Gaspar Espuña and Josep Maria Trias founded CETT in 1969, an institution that sought to train the best professionals to meet the needs of a sector, tourism, which was developing very rapidly during the 60s.

The CETT group has developed over the years and, currently, in addition to the training center and its applied technology classrooms, it manages a four-star hotel, a restaurant, a residence, a restaurant-cafet and a gastronomic restaurant.

Practical training

These spaces are also application centers where students can put their knowledge into practice during their training period and benefit from the experience of companies and their professionals.

Taking this context into account, and in order to take CETT's values and proposals one step further, Gaspar Espuña established the Foundation in 2000.

It was born with the same philosophy that has always characterized CETT and became an open, creative foundation and the driving force behind the center's own activity.

Transparency

CETT Fundació wants to be a transparent entity, so it makes available to society a set of information that guarantees our project and its legitimacy:
