A dialogue to rethink tourism in the face of the climate emergency

Observatori CETT returns with a new edition, this time in the form of a Tourism Policy Dialogue, to be held on December 3, 2025.

As a leading institution in training, research, and knowledge transfer in tourism, CETT has the responsibility to promote a sustainable transformation of the sector, aligned with initiatives such as the Glasgow Declaration, the National Commitment to Responsible Tourism, and the Climate Action Plan for the tourism sector in Catalonia.

We aim to bring this topic to the forefront to connect academic knowledge, public administration, and the business sector, contributing to a shared vision that will allow us to reduce emissions, adapt management models, and guarantee the future viability of tourism through environmental, social, and economic responsibility.

Together we can create a more sustainable and resilient tourism industry

The tourism sector is responsible for between 8 and 11% of global CO₂ emissions, and its projected growth until 2050 could further exacerbate this footprint if models and practices are not redefined.

In a context where the global temperature has already risen by 1.1°C, and the Mediterranean is warming 20% faster than the global average, it is essential to create a space for reflection and shared action.

Understanding climate change

We explore the scientific basis of climate change and its real effects on the territory, such as rising temperatures, droughts, and fires, which are already transforming tourist destinations and ecosystems.

Its objective is to influence public policy through knowledge, offering concise, applicable, and data-driven recommendations. This document positions CETT as an academic leader committed to sustainability and climate action, and continues the debate initiated during the dialogue.

The policy paper will be published in March 2026 and will be available on the event website, in the CETT press repository, and to specialized media outlets.
