CETT Korean Gastronomy Competition | We commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with Korea

The competition promotes Korean culinary tradition among students by encouraging creativity, and the winner gets a trip to Korea.
On April 25, the Korean Gastronomy Competition was held at the center on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The competition, organized by the General Consulate of the Republic of Korea in Barcelona in collaboration with CETT and Woosong University, promotes the Korean culinary tradition among students, encouraging creativity without losing the essence of Korean cuisine.
The theme of the competition was traditional jang in commemoration of its inclusion on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity 2024 list. Thus, the students had to prepare its different variants such as doenjang, gochujand and gatjang, which are, respectively, soybean paste, spicy chili paste and Korean soy sauce. Eleven CETT students participated, and the three finalists received a diploma and prizes of 600, 400 and 200 euros in order of ranking.
Eric Buxo Domenech, a first year student of the Culinary and Gastronomic Sciences Bachelor’s Degree, won with his dish composed of mandu - steamed Korean dumplings - filled with chicken marinated in soy sauce and prawns accompanied by a sauce made with samgyetang broth - traditional Korean chicken soup - and doenjang. The jury highlighted their deep understanding of Korean cuisine through their presentation and the solid theoretical learning involved.
The winners from the different participating countries will be able to attend the Namdo 2025 International Gastronomy Industry Exhibition, to be held in October in Korea. In addition, they will be able to compete in the K-food International Amateur Chef Competition, which will take place during the fair.
The event was attended by Younghyo Park, Korean Consul. With this type of actions, the link and institutional relations between both countries are strengthened.
