The Expert Certificate in Wine Knowledge and Gastronomic Beverages introduces participants to the world of wine and gastronomic beverages through a practical, immersive learning experience closely connected to the industry. The programme provides a solid foundation in viticulture, oenology, wine tasting, Spanish wine geography, wine service, food and wine pairing, and gastronomic products, combining technical knowledge, sensory analysis and professional application.
This qualification corresponds to the first level of the CETT-UB Sommelier Programme and is designed for students and professionals who wish to begin or progressively consolidate their specialization. Upon successful completion, participants earn a university qualification that enables them to continue their academic pathway with the second level of the Higher Diploma in Sommelier Studies or the Master's Degree in Sommelier Studies.
Through a learning by doing methodology, guided tastings, practical workshops, visits to vineyards and wineries, and sessions led by industry professionals, the programme prepares students to understand, evaluate and communicate wine in contexts such as hospitality, specialised retail, wineries, wine tourism and gastronomic experiences. It also promotes a responsible approach to wine, highlighting respect for the product, its origin, sustainability and conscious consumption.

Assessment
Assessment is continuous and takes place throughout the programme during on-campus sessions. Each module includes theoretical and/or practical assessments aligned with the learning outcomes and competencies covered. To obtain the qualification, students must successfully complete all programme modules.
Grades are awarded on a numerical scale from 0 to 10, with one decimal place, together with the corresponding qualitative grade. Attendance at all on-campus sessions is mandatory.
Qualification Awarded
Upon successful completion of all modules, you will be awarded the Expert Certificate in Wine Knowledge and Gastronomic Beverages, issued by the University of Barcelona.

CETT International Support
We understand the challenges of living in a new country. That is why the CETT-UB Campus offers the International Relations Office (ORI), a dedicated service providing guidance, advice and support for international students enrolled in our master's programmes.
The ORI team will assist you with practical aspects of settling in Barcelona, including local registration (empadronamiento), obtaining your Foreigner Identity Number (NIE), and finding accommodation in the city.
Academic and Administrative Procedures
The ORI team will provide up-to-date guidance on the administrative procedures you will need to complete once you arrive in Barcelona. This includes support with essential documentation such as your Foreigner Identity Number (NIE), local registration (empadronamiento), and your university student card.
Languages
If Spanish is not your first language, the ORI team will advise you on where and how to learn it. They can also provide information about learning Catalan, helping you integrate more easily into everyday life in Barcelona.
In addition, you can improve your Spanish through the certified language courses offered by the CETT-UB Language Department. If you would like to practise other languages in a more informal setting, you can also take part, free of charge, in the CETT-UB Language Exchange Programme, where students meet to improve their language skills together.

Two Internship Options
Curricular internships: These internships are linked to modules within your programme and form part of the academic curriculum. They are therefore mandatory.
Extracurricular internships: These are optional internships undertaken outside the academic curriculum to further enhance your professional experience.
Internships are carried out through university–industry partnership agreements and are supervised by academic staff with expertise in the relevant field.
